5 out of 5 STARS

Before I start my review for Miss Peregrine’s Home For peculiar Children, I want to share a story. I was not really planning to read this book for the cover creeps me out and because of that I start to believe that it’s a horror story. The thing is that I’m not the biggest fan of horror stories. But last February 24, 2013, a friend of mine convinced me to buy a book because the author, Ransom Riggs, will go in our country for book signing. My friend wants me to accompany her so she tried her best to convince me. In the end, I got convinced and bought the book. Not wanting to be clueless during the book signing and Q&A with Ransom Riggs, I started reading the book 2 days before the event itself. During the day itself, I get the chance to meet Mr. Ransom Rigg and Tahere Mafi(author of Shatter Me and Unravel Me). It’s so nice talking with them and you’ll feel like you’ve been friends for a very long time. Then during the event itself, I asked mr. Riggs this: “Since, it is said that Tim Burton will direct the film of your book, Can you already see Helena Bonham Carter as one of the characters you created?” and he answered “Yes, she can be the perfect Ms. Peregerine.” That basically made me happy.

To start my review, I just want to say that I just love the pictures and story that goes with it in this book. During the Q&A with Ransom, he told us that the pictures were just a collection with unknown histories (well, except for the pictures he took himself). Given that fact, I think that the input of the story in this book to those pictures are quite good and believable. I just find the story amazing and extraordinary or I might say peculiar. The characters are amazing and well described. I really enjoyed the start of the encounter of Jacob with the other peculiar and the mere fact that they are all alive since the 1940s and they are not aging. I find the setting very awesome though it made me sad that they keep on living the same day everyday for a very long time just to be safe. Thinking of never having a chance to have a story for another makes me sad. I just love the characters of this book especially Millard, Olive, Emma, Enoch, and Horace. Also, to make things more interesting, Jacob’s grandfather had a past with Emma which is now having a relationship with Jacob. But the funny thing is that given the story, I don’t find it disgusting. It’s a really good book and I can’t find more words to describe it. I think the best way to feel the story and the characters is for others to read it as well.

The thing is that I never been so wrong in judging the book. It’s not a horror story at all. I’m really fascinated with the story. So, I highly recommend for people to read this book before the movie comes out.
